I've been feeding my wild birds with a regular bird feeder that hold "loose" bird seed. The little birds fling more out into the yard than they actually eat! They empty out the feeder in 2 days.
I've seen these "solid bars" of bird seed sold at the store that you can hang up. Have any of you tried these kinds of bar feeders? I was wondering if there is less seed falling to the ground with these kind of feeders.
Are you talking about SUET feeders, Kay? I buy suet (my birds like the peanut kind) and have a wire container that it fits in. Birds that like suet are all woodpeckers, Brown Thrashers, Bluebirds...
ReplyDeleteThe loose kind (black sunflower seeds) are liked by Cardinals, Tufted Titmice, Chickadees, Nuthatches, and Finches.. I also buy Nyger (thistle) for the finches.
Buy a bird feeder for your 'loose' bird seed that has a larger bottom--so that they won't spill as much...
