Ben's Eye Surgery

Left the house this morning at 10:15 AM to get Ben over to the hospital by 11:00 AM. Got home at 5:00 PM.

They took Ben in for the surgery around 1:45 PM. The surgery took about 1 hour and 25 minutes. Doctor said that there was a lot a damage to his eye because of the blood pressure. They had to put a gas bubble into his eye to hold his retina in place since they removed the vitreous humor. The bubble will dissolve and the vitreous humor will replenish itself. He has to hold his head downward for several day because if he raises his head up, the bubble in his eye floats to level itself. Keeping his head in the down/forward position keeps the bubble pressed against the retina so it does not detach from the back of his eye. As of right now, it appears he will be off work for at least 2 weeks, but we have a follow-up with the doctor in the morning and he will maybe give us a better return to work date. Also, there was so much damage that now Ben will have to have cataract surgery sometime next year.

  1. Oh, this sounds like a difficult way to spend a few days. Can he lie down to sleep? I wish you both well!
