Does anyone have a clue to what kind of animal this is? I saw it sunning itself on a rock during my hike yesterday. It appeared to be about 3 ft long. Thought it was a squirrel at first, but doesn't seem to be. You can make the photos a little larger by clicking on them.
It's not a marmot is it. I'm only viewing on my iPod so can't see it all that well.
ReplyDeleteI guess it could be. I've never heard of them, but looked it up after you mentioned it. I don't know if we have them in SoCal. I did kind of look like a ground hog, so maybe....

What an interesting critter, Kay. His ears are too big for a marmot but maybe he is one of those Rock Ground Squirrels...not sure cause they get about 2 ft. long. Curious, tho. Let us know what you find out.
